Projects

Projects will provide meaningful opportunities to take learning beyond basic skill practice. Your child will be assigned math, reading, science, and social studies projects throughout the year.

Reading

Each quarter (1-3), your child will be responsible for completing a literature response project about a book they are reading independently. These projects may be turned in at any time throughout the quarter, but are always due by a date provided at the end of the term. Grades for the book report projects will appear on the following quarter’s report card. Click on the links below to view the assignment sheet and grading rubric that will be used for these projects.

Math

Additionally, your child will be assigned one authentic learning math project each quarter (2-4). These projects are specifically aligned to mathematical concepts and standards we have been exploring in class, but will take your child out of the workbook and into the real world. They will have a choice of 3-5 projects to complete. Students will have about 3 weeks to complete their projects after they have been assigned.

Science & Social Studies

The tentative schedule for science and social studies projects are as follows.

Q1: Countries in the Western Hemisphere Project

Q2/3: Environments Project

Q4: Civic Responsibility Project
